Theater/Worship

Here are some pictures of the Irondale Center, a new theater space at 85 South Oxford in Fort Greene. It is now open for business, and it's an amazing, highly flexible space that will soon (I am told) be equipped with state of the art lighting and audio systems. The theater is in what once upon a time was the "children's chapel" of the enormous Lafayette Avenue Presbyterian Church. I look forward to seeing the place in action. Kudos go to Insite East, LLC and especially to one Dan Fennessey, who project-managed the construction/ rehabilitation/ renovation. Good work, young man.

World of Rock

Saturday night went to the Annex to see some rock. RIBS put on a kickass show, and so did Rumanian Buck. The final band, Netherlands, were fun though it was more Sylvia's thing than mine. All the bands feature true front men, which is refreshing. A nice departure from the trend toward democracy a lot of NYC-based bands exhibit (not that there's anything wrong with that). After the show we wandered around awhile until we found a bar that wasn't too crowded, a minor miracle in the lower east side. I realized that I hadn't been down there in quite awhile, and by the time we decided to go home, I remembered why. There's not any way we can get back to our place without taking - count them - three subway trains. Even during a weekday, this is intolerable for me. But for some reason, neither Sylvia or I mentioned the C word*, and we braved the long trip home. I needed a dose of Law and Order SVU on netflix instant viewing to restore my equilibrium.

In other news, Motico (pictured at right), are planning to record sometime soon, after long delays and many additions to our catalogue. We've decided that it will be best to leave the engineering end of things to a third party even though we have the technical capacity to do it ourselves. Time was I would have been gung-ho about DIYing it, but sometimes writing songs and learning to play them well is good enough. And having another pair of ears is never a bad thing. We're still accepting applications for the job, if anyone's interested. And no, we don't have a multi-million dollar record deal (is there any such thing these days, anyway?).
