Fat Tuesday Hangover
Not really. I'd totally forgotten it was Fat Tuesday until some drunk guy reminded all of us late last night on the G platform at Metropolitan.
This Saturday I want to go see RIBS at the Annex. They can bring the rock.
Also, IFC Center presents Cronenberg Classics Friday and Saturday at midnight. This weekend's film is Spider (above), which I like a lot, but I'll probably hold out for The Fly or Videodrome, proven classics both.
Truth be told, we may end up staying home and trying recipes from Mark Bittman's How to Cook Everything.
I'm finally realizing that blogging is very similar to that assignment your 10th grade english teacher gave you, where you had to go home and write 2-5 pages about anything. Anything? What is that? Don't we have any standards here? Apparently not.

Questions and Comments
Why is it that when you're learning a new language (in my case German), it feels like it gets easier, then harder, then easier, then harder, and so on?
Eating chili in the middle of the day is a bad idea.
Why has there never been another detective show as good as Columbo?
I recently watched Miami Vice for the first time since the 80s. I'd totally forgotten that Don Johnson (Crockett) had a pet alligator that was always wreaking havoc on his personal life. Brilliant!
Why doesn't anyone like rice pudding?
Pretty soon there will be more fictional people with Wikipedia pages than real people.
Why can't anyone record drums the way they were recorded in the mid to late 70s? It probably had a lot to do with the style and the players, but there was something in the electronics, too. Off the top of my head, here are some great rock albums with that "sound" from this period:
Television - "Marquee Moon"
Joe Jackson - "Look Sharp"
The Police - "Reggatta de Blanc"
Elvis Costello & the Attractions - "My Aim is True", etc
Warren Zevon - "Excitable Boy"
My wife watches Star Trek. Not just the original, but all of them. Sometimes I overhear scraps of dialogue and leave notes around the apartment that say things like, "Easy for you to say, you're not facing cybernetic oblivion!"
This blog post has been influenced by the book Moses May Have Been an Apache and Other Actual Facts. You should check it out.
That chili is killing me.

Burning Rubber
This week has been mad eventful. Yesterday I went to Naked Angels Tuesdays@9 play reading series for the first time in ages. It's a weekly, informal event catering to playwrights and actors who read short excerpts from works in progress on stage in front of 100 or so people. I forgot how much I dig it. I submitted some pages so hopefully I'll be up there some time in the near future. I also just got turned on to the Brooklyn Filmmakers Collective, which is kind of the filmmaker's equivalent of the above. I will check this out next week.
Tomorrow I'm off to an exhibit at the American Numismatic Society, which Sylvia helped set up. Getting all this culture is making me feel better about my plan to vegetate in front of the NBA All-Star Game on Sunday.
I've got to figure out a way to post photos on this blog without having to tag & style everything manually. Yeah, good luck with that, Karges.

Let's Dance
That's it, no more fussing around. I've been toying with this site for months now (it's been up for 3) and now I'm ready to say the hell with it-- let it go, dude. I'm pretty content with everything, though the blog part of things troubles me a bit, and I can't say I have any idea what it will be about. I'm sure I'll think of something, or "nothing", that will be appropriate. How hard could it be? I mean, one of my favorite blogs is about garbage.
The site was built mostly as an exercise to help me learn how to use PHP. What this means is that there's a lot of semi-complicated stuff going on in the background that you'll never have to worry about. I derived satisfaction from tackling numerous technical challenges that, in the end, I hope will provide you with the enjoyment that you deserve. Thank you for reading.
